The Ancient Greeks – Origins

Michael Tunnicliffe

The Ancient Greeks would have a massive impact on future civilizations through their art, architecture, philosophy and stories. This course charts the first emergence of the Minoans and Mycenaeans in the Bronze Age, through the mysterious centuries of the Greek Dark Age and down to the middle of the 6th century BC. We will examine their history, culture and art as well as the stories and myths they told in order to understand what made these particular people unique. The topic will then continue in the spring term.
