\"\"<\/a>Michael Tunnicliffe<\/p>\n

This period saw the restoration of the Church of England under Charles II, the failed attempt to restore Catholicism under James II and the granting of limited toleration to Nonconformists under William and Mary. It witnessed the association of the House of Stewart with the Catholic cause and of Hanover with Protestantism leading to the Jacobite Rebellions of 1715 and 1745. It saw the stirrings of Enlightenment ideas that would help usher in the French Revolution but also the fervent piety of the Evangelical Revival and the birth of Methodism as a new denomination. This course explores the changes that took place in this turbulent time from Charles II to George III.<\/p>\n
