The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conservative\">conservative<\/a> culture has produced a strong focus on family, religion &amp;community, but despite these common themes, there is <g class=\"gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"6\" data-gr-id=\"6\">debate<\/g> about what makes <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">aliterary<\/g> work &#8220;Southern.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We shall study 3 works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Midnight in the Garden of Good &amp; Evil<\/em> (1994) by John Berendt<\/li><li>This is not a novel but an account of real-life events in Savannah, Georgia. It is wildly funny, occasionally alarming and completely enthralling.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The March<\/em> (2005) by E.L.Doctorow. This is an account of General George T. Sherman\u2019s march to the sea in the last year of one of the bloodiest and most divisive wars in history.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Go Set a Watchman <\/em>(2015) by Harper Lee. Now the little girl in <em>To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em> is grown up.
