Three day schools chart the developments from the \u2018Flemish primitives\u2019 to the golden era of Rubens and Rembrandt. The first two day schools will take place on 25 January and 1 March; the date of the 3rd<\/sup> one (Rubens, Rembrandt & The Golden Age) will be confirmed in the MANCENT\u2019s summer programme. Illustrations of the artworks by the Van Eyck brothers, Rogier van der Weyden, Hans Memling, Hugo van der Goes, Joachim Patinir, Hieronymus Bosch and many others provide the insight into the genesis of one of the most distinctive and influential schools of European painting.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n PART 2 \u2013 Friday, 1 March, 10.30 \u2013 16.00<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n 1500s \u2013 from Bruegel the Elder to cornucopia of genres<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n The genius of Bruegel the Elder provided the bridge between the early \u2018primitives\u2019 and the new artistic tendencies, interpreting Renaissance ideas with great originality. An army of artists took to a more narrow approach and devoted themselves to genre painting, developing highly specialised and idiosyncratic artistic expressions, often conditioned by the regional socio-economic factors. Illustrations by, among others, \u2018theBreugel dynasty\u2019, Caterina van Hemessen, Quentyn Matsys, Peter Aertsen and Joos van Cleve will help to untangle the complexities of this fascinating period.
