Two women who transcended\u00a0 the restrictions of their class and gender and made a significant contribution to the causes that they cared about are:<\/p>\n

  1. Monday 17th June: GERTRUDE MARKIEVICZ<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Aristocrat and republican, socialist and artist, feminist and free spirit, Constance Markievicz was a pivotal figure in the revolutionary movement that culminated in the Rising of 1916, and its long and painful aftermath leading to Irish independence.
    \nIllustrating with images, text and film, we shall tell her story and assess her contribution.<\/p>\n

    1. Monday 24th June: GERTRUDE BELL<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Archaeologist, spy, Arabist, linguist, author, poet and nation builder, Gertrude Bell lived a life as extraordinary as Constance Markievicz’s. She was, according to T.E.Lawrence, ‘born too gifted’.<\/p>\n

      Through analysis of two remarkable lives, we shall explore political events whose effects are relevant to this day.<\/p>\n
