A young man misbehaves and gets turned into a donkey, searching the Roman Empire for healing he experiences the stranges things and meets a lot of people we never hear about in other Roman sources. Apuleius’ Golden Ass is a tour of the Roman Empire far away from polite society, but funny and beautifully written.
\nReading and discussing the different chapters will give us the opportunity to look at what we really know about Roman life in the provinces and eventually find out, what happens to the donkey.<\/p>\n

Both the text and the translation are available online and we will offer the course either as a chance to do some translation work for advanced Latin scholar or by working from the translation – the choice is yours.<\/p>\n

The course will provide you with the text and an outline of the course and expect you to have read the next chapter before the weekly Skype\/Webex session. (both can be downloaded for free for PC\/Mac\/Android).<\/p>\n

Apuleius’ Golden Ass in English:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This course will be taught online using Cisco Webex (which allows for slides and for a full hour of teaching). The lectures can be attended individually or as a full set.<\/p>\n
