Pliny the Elder, best known for his activities during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD, spend a lot of his active life as an equestrian procurator collecting material for his book on the Natural World, in effect a fantastically detailed encyclopedia covering everything from mining techniques to geography and beekeeping.<\/p>\n
The course will be reading Book 7, 109ff. , which deals with Humans and their behaviour. A Latin\/English dictionary will be very useful.<\/p>\n
