He began as a reviewer, spending many \u2018mornings in the dark\u2019. Then he learnt the art of scriptwriting by adapting others\u2019 work, before getting opportunities to adapt his own fiction. Eventually he wrote directly for the screen. We shall look at all these aspects in our 3 linked \u2018day schools\u2019 We shall meet via Zoom on Monday afternoons between 1.30 and 3.30 and then on the following morning, Tuesday between 10.30 and 12.30. Dates given below.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Day school 1 &#8211; 20<sup>th<\/sup> and 21<sup>st<\/sup> September<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Looks at<em>\u00a0<strong>21 Days<\/strong><\/em><strong> (1940)<\/strong> adapted by Graham Greene from a John Galsworthy short story and reviewed unfavourably by the screenwriter himself. Greene\u2019s difficult relationship with director Basil Dean is also explored. Then we shall look at <em>The\u00a0Ministry of Fear<\/em> (1944) adapted from the novel published in the previous year.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Day school 2\u00a0&#8211; 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> November\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Deals with <strong><em>The Fallen Idol <\/em>(1948<\/strong>)<em>, <\/em>adapted by Greene from one of his own short stories.
