In this Series of lectures we will explore how these routes worked and how they changed over time and how the people alongside suffered and benefiteed from their proximity.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Programme<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>20th January: <\/strong>Why the Plural? Starting trading along the Western Pacific Rim in the Bronze and Iron Age.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3 February<\/strong>: Coming from the other side: Trading along the coast of Arabia and the Persian Gulf<\/p>\n<p><strong>10 February<\/strong>: Linking the system together: Monsoon trading and the role of India, Sri Lanka and the straits of Malacca<\/p>\n<p><strong>17th February<\/strong>: Europeans seeking Spice. The end of the Maritime Silkroad?<\/p>\n<p><strong>24th February<\/strong>: Break<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Overland Silk Roads<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3 March<\/strong>: The Silk route before Silk. Trading Gemstones, horses and\u00a0 skills?<\/p>\n<p><b>10 March<\/b>: From China to Rome &#8211; Bringing the Silk West<\/p>\n<p><strong>17 March<\/strong>: Trading religions &#8211; the silk routes and the spread of Christianity, Islam and Buddhism<\/p>\n<p><strong>24th March:<\/strong> Is the way to Power Trade or faster armies?
