Amongst the rich chamber music of Schumann and Brahms, the single Piano Quintet written by each composer stands out as a landmark work. By studying these two works side-by-side we shall meet their composers at the summit of their powers, and investigate the changing relationship between Robert and Clara Schumann and their young friend.<\/p>\n
Over the twenty years between the works, Brahms developed from Robert\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9 to a steadfast friend of Clara and her children after Robert\u2019s early death. We shall meet this fascinating trio of remarkable musicians through their writings as well as through these warmly expressive and ground-breaking compositions.<\/p>\n
