In origin a band of Norse pirates, they went on to be one of the most successful peoples of the central middle ages, for good or ill dominating the history of much of Western Europe in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. This course traces the activities of the Normans from their origins in the early-tenth century to the end of the twelfth century.
