In these sessions, we shall take a look at Handel\u2019s first and last oratorios, one secular and one sacred, with a particular exploration of his wonderfully dramatic writing for soloists, chorus, and orchestra. On the way we shall meet angels and a monster, a rescue, a murder, and the whole gamut of emotions from bliss to despair, each pictured with both economy and depth.<br \/>\nThis investigation will help us to understand the qualities, which combine to make Messiah unique.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday May 16 th 10 am \u2013 12.30 pm Acis and Galatea (1718)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Thursday May 23 rd 10 am \u2013 12.30 pm Jephtha (1752)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each morning will consist of two one-hour lecture\/discussions delivered via Zoom.
