The Romans saw Greece as a highly cultured land, the home of philosophy, rhetoric, Homer, and art, but also a land of witch craft and some very strange habits.<\/p>\n

By the late Republic spending time in Athens perfecting your language skills and learning Greek philosophy had led to Athens becoming for a while the \u2018finishing school of Rome\u2019s elite\u2019 and by the second century Pausanias saw a market for writing one of the earliest travel guides to Greece.<\/p>\n

This dayschool is going to look at the places Romans hoped to see and discuss why.<\/p>\n
