In AD66 corruption and mismanagement by the Roman governor led to the outbreak of the Jewish War, which initially met with unexpected success until the Emperor Nero sent the seasoned general Vespasian and his son Titus to quell the revolt. By the end of the War in 73 Jerusalem and its Temple were in ruins, Masada was deserted and Vespasian was Emperor of Rome. We have one gripping eye-witness account from the Jewish priest turned soldier turned Roman quisling known to us as Flavius Josephus. We will follow his account of the tumultuous events as well as looking at the initial causes of the revolt and its consequences for Jewish, Christian and Roman history.<\/p>\n
