Ugarit was an important trading city on the coast of Syria. It flourished in the Late Bronze Age c1500-1200BC when international trade was at its height. It was rediscovered in 1928, and within the ruins archaeologists discovered a treasure trove of cuneiform clay tablets. These included not only letters, laws and poems but a series of myths telling of the Canaanite gods and goddesses. Then soon after 1200 the notorious \u201cBronze Age Collapse\u201d occurred and the invasion of the Sea Peoples. This course tells the story of a lost civilisation and opens a window on life and belief over three thousand years ago<\/p>\n
