From 3300 to 1300 BCE, along the Indus and the upper reaches of the Ganges civilisation thrived that at its height included more that 500 settlements, many of which achieving very large size, such as Mohendjo Daro or Dholavira.<\/p>\n
This early civilisation managed to organise large-scale irrigation and drainage system, traded all the way to the Persian Gulf and Mesopotamia. Created early writing, while their townplanning and architecture shows that they were quite adept at mathematics and physics.<\/p>\n
This dayschool will look at how this Civilisation arose, how much we know about the organisation of the towns, what our evidence is for cooperation between cities and towns, what we know of the people who lived and died in these cities, and why so many of them were abandoned after 1000 years.<\/p>\n
Please note all lectures will be recorded and distributed to the participants at the beginning of the next week. This should allow participants from different time zones, or those working to catch up with the lectures.<\/p>\n
