During the Roman Period the Western coast of Libya developed into a massive centre for trade across the Mediterranean \u2013 the three largest harbours Oea, Sabratha and of course Leptis had trading stations in Ostia and members of their elite became rich enough to become senators and later emperors.<\/p>\n

This day school will look at how the income from trade shaped the towns and their hinterland and what it tells us about Roman ideas of long-distance trade.<\/p>\n

Please note all lectures will be recorded and distributed to the participants at the beginning of the next week. This should allow participants from different time zones, or those working to catch up with the lectures.<\/p>\n
