Written in the mid first century, Petronius’ Satyricon is the story of raucous mishaps, satirizing\u00a0the literature and life style of its age. In the centre is the Cena Trimalchionis a dinner party by a nouveau riche trying to give the dinner of all dinners, demonstrating to all and sundry all that money can buy and also what it can’t.<\/p>\n

We will be reading this section of the Satyricon in the Latin original.<\/p>\n

Learning materials will be provided, but a Latin\/English dictionary will be useful.<\/p>\n

Newcomers are always welcome<\/strong>\u00a0but should ensure that they are familiar with the material in Wilding\u2019s up to\u00a0Volume 3<\/strong>, feel free to ask to come for a trial session, if you are unsure.<\/p>\n
