This year marks the 500th<\/sup> anniversary of Martin Luther\u2019s \u201cprotest\u201d when he nailed his 95 theses to the door of Wittenberg Church. What were the issues in medieval Catholicism that led to this protest, and why did Luther succeed where earlier reformers had failed? His actions sparked a reformation that split Europe and Christendom creating separate Lutheran and reformed churches ain the north with southern Europe remaining Catholic under the Counter Reformation. Meanwhile even more radical voices emerged.
