At the edge of, or rather on an island in the Fenland of Eastern England, stands one of the largest and most impressive Cathedrals of Britain, but the town that supports it is tiny.
How did such a Cathedral develop here, where did the wealth come from and how was it maintained through the Middle Ages? In this dayschool. We will look at the history of the town of Ely and its Cathedral from Hereward the Wake to Oliver Cromwell
Please note all lectures will be recorded and distributed to the participants at the beginning of the next week. This should allow participants from different time zones, or those working to catch up with the lectures.
Dayschool: Saturday, 5 December 2026 Time: 11.00– 16.00 GMT
