Constantinople after 1453

Birgitta Hoffmann

With the Conquest of Constantinople in May 1453 a 1100 years old deeply Christian capital became overnight the capital of the equally deeply Muslim empire of the Ottomans.
This dayschool will look at how over the succeeding 250 years the Ottoman Sultans and their population transformed and preserved this ancient city.

Online Dayschool: Saturday,  19th September 2026

Time: 11.00– 16.00 GMT.

Please note all lectures will be recorded and distributed to the participants at the beginning of the next week. This should allow participants from different time zones, or those working to catch up with the lectures.
