How to make a Late Roman People.

The origins of Goths, Franks and Alamanni

Birgitta Hoffmann

From the mid 3rd century AD new barbarians threaten Rome. Rather than small tribes they represent large nations that are able to defeat the Roman army and eventually replace the Western Roman Empire. But where do they come from? The dayschool will explore the difference between historical and archaeological evidence and the role of the founding myths in the creation of the Early Medieval and Late Roman nations.
