The Korean peninsula has acted as the region’s lynchpin, constantly subjected to occupation by its more powerful neighbours, China, Japan and, latterly, Russia. Currently, its divided state threatens destabilization and potential (global) nuclear war. We examine Korea’s complex history and ask: “Can its peoples ever be united once more as a single nation?
