Isaiah 40-66

Michael Tunnicliffe

The last chapters of the book of Isaiah form a distinctive section. With its references to Babylon and the end of Exile chapters 40-55 seem to come from around 540BC just before the capture of Babylon by Cyrus II, and his edict allowing Jews to return and rebuild Jerusalem. They promise a glorious future in a renewed land. The reality though was not so rosy and chapters 56-66 seem to come from a generation later when the returned exiles were struggling somewhat. The course will explore 2-3 chapters per week of this important part of the book of Isaiah.
