Mozart – Masses and Mysteries

Rosemary Broadbent

It is one of the sad ironies of Mozart’s life that his two greatest church works were left unfinished. The Great Mass in C minor and the Requiem contain some of his finest music, but still trouble conductors and scholars because both were left in a fragmentary state. The situation is confused further by the various attempts to complete them, which continue to this day. In these sessions, we shall examine the background to each work and investigate the magnificent music which survives. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the questions raised by efforts to complete the works.
