Birgitta Hoffmann
In and around 536AD Historical sources worldwide talk about bad harvests, strange weather phenomena and the very cold summers. But what really happened during those years? How much of this can we actually recognise in the archaeological record and should we blame the same cause for every misfortune that befell the world during those years?
We will be talking about the research into these years, discussing how much is likely volcanic causes, whether there may have been a meteor strike, or is the long-term cooling of the climate just reaching its lowpoint?
We will be talking about plague, kingdoms under stress, abandoned sites and other archaeological evidence.
