Michael Tunnicliffe
“The undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns” says Hamlet. Nevertheless speculation about a future life pervades cultures down the ages and around the world. Also the way in which the dead are properly disposed of varies from culture to culture. This course will examine a range of belief systems including ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, the Classical and Hellenistic world, Persia, India and Central America. The final sessions explore the changes in the western Christian tradition over the last 1000 years.\
