The Vikings: At Home and Abroad

Michael Tunnicliffe

The Vikings Age covers roughly the period 800-1100 during which time the small chieftainships of Scandinavia would coalesce into the countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. This course charts that history, including the transition from the pagan Norse gods to Christianity. But the Vikings were also great travellers south into the Mediterranean, east to the Caspian and Black Sea and west as far as Greenland and North America. Each week we will explore one of these areas.
