Mother Goddesses are a central feature of Roman religion, from Juno in Rome itself to Magna Mater to the numerous mother deities venerated in Northern Provinces, these cults appear to have appealed to those wanting to have children. Or were they? This day-school is going to explore the various aspects of Matres and Matronae, that went beyond the fertility cult and provided protection in life and after death, as well as a focus for tribal identity.
