Denial, Mick Jackson (2016)

Creina Mansfield, Alan Sennett and John Cochrane

A compelling and hugely important film of the American historian Deborah Lipstadt’s defence of her critique of holocaust denial.  Written by David Hare and starring Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Spall, the film explores the libel case brought against Lipstadt and Penguin Books by David Irving.  Based on Lipstadt’s book about the case, Denial.  Holocaust History on Trial, the film explores vital questions of historical knowledge.  We will consider the film adaptation, its making and issues it raises about historical fact and interpretation.
