2 Corinthians and Phillipians

Michael Tunnicliffe

Corinth and Philippi were important cities in the south and north of Greece respectively. They were visited by St Paul on his journeys and churches were founded there. But Paul’s relations with the two congregations were very different. Corinth proved the most troublesome of all his churches and 2 Corinthians gives a vivid picture of the turbulent relationship. Philippi in contrast seems to have been a stable church and the theme of rejoicing runs through Paul’s epistle to them. This course involves a close reading of the text in English together with background study on the context of these two important epistles.
