Nero’s Golden House and the Recent excavations

Birgitta Hoffmann

Nero and the huge building project continue to fascinate amateurs and professionals alike, the large banqueting suite on the slopes of the Esquiline with its wallpaintings and sculpture finds became one of the foundations for the study of Roman art.

In recent years excavations and conservation work on the Golden House and the wider area around the Colosseum in Rome have done much to change and widen our view of the Golden house, its gardens and the realisation that it was only one of several wings of the palace.

The dayschool will look at these new and old discoveries and pull together our current understanding of Nero’s fantastic palace.

Dayschool: Saturday, 4th June 2022       Time: 11.00– 16.30 BST
