Revelation is one of the most controversial and misunderstood books in the Bible. This course examines the social, political and cultural setting that gave birth to the genre of apocalyptic writings. We will explore what John of Patmos was trying to say to the people of his own time. How did he utilise this new type of literature which drew on ancient mythological themes? We will also investigate the ways in which the book has been interpreted or misinterpreted over the centuries
