NOT FOR ALL THE TEA IN CHINA: A short history of the trade in tea and coffee

Birgitta Hoffmann

Tea comes from China – so why is some of the best tea today grown in India and why does our coffee taste nothing like the beans that were first traded from Moccha in Yemen and what would religion have to do with either of these two hot drinks?

For our first dayschool of 2024 we will explore the history of trading and drinking tea and coffee from about 600 CE to today.

Dayschool: Saturday, 20 January 2023       Time: 11.00– 16.00 GMT
